Born in Milan on April 23rd, 1964, Noseda studied piano and composition at the city’s conservatory before turning his attention to conducting. Noseda has since conducted in many of the world’s most prestigious venues and held a number of significant positions with internationally-acclaimed orchestras. He served as Chief Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic from September 2002 to the end of the 2010 - 2011 season, assuming the role of Conductor Laureate at the close of his tenure, and has had successful spells as Principal Guest Conductor with the Israel and Rotterdam Philharmonics and the London Symphony Orchestra.
In January 2016, he was appointed Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington DC, effective from the start of the 2017 - 2018 season. His appointment followed two guest appearances with the orchestra in 2011 and 2015 respectively, and four seasons as holder of the Victor de Sabata Guest Conductor Chair with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Since 2021, Noseda has also been General Music Director of the Zürich Opera.
Honoured with the Commendatore al Merito della Repubblica Italiana for his contribution to the country’s artistic life, and recipient of the prestigious Puccini Award in 2023, Noseda remains one of the world’s most admired and sought-after conductors.
