Domingo Garcia Hindoyan is a Venezuelan conductor and violinist born in Caracas on February 15th, 1980. A graduate of the country’s renowned El Sistema initiative (a publicly funded education programme aimed at promoting music as a vehicle for social development), Hindoyan is currently Chief Conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and a rising star on the classical music scene.
Having begun as a violinist in his native Venezuela, Hindoyan moved to Switzerland where he met acclaimed pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim. This meeting proved pivotal in determining the course of Hindoyan’s career since, having obviously impressed Barenboim with his playing, the young Venezuelan was invited to join the maestro’s West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, with whom he went on to play for several years.
Increasingly compelled to pursue a career in conducting however, Hindoyan studied for a Masters degree under Professor Laurent Gay at the Haute École de Musique de Genève which he passed with highest distinction. He subsequently served as First Assistant Conductor to Barenboim at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin between 2013 and 2016, and became Principal Guest Conductor of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in September 2019.
In June 2020, having served as guest conductor on a number of occasions, Hindoyan was appointed to his first Chief Conductor role with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra - a tenure which has since been extended until 2028. He has also led numerous acclaimed orchestras around the world including - but not limited to - the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna State Opera, Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra.
An exciting and celebrated conductor who describes himself as ‘a fanatic of the score’, Hindoyan’s performances with the RLPO - as with the other ensembles and orchestras he conducts - continue to receive widespread acclaim from both concert-goers and critics.
